An exciting new opportunity in West Yorkshire has arisen for an R&D Team leader who will be responsible for managing and supervising R&D projects and the associated team. This role will involve leading product development activities, planning R&D tasks, and working closely with internal stakeholders to optimise product performance.  

To be considered for this R&D Team Leader position you will have previous leadership experience within the Polymers industry. You will also be degree educated in Chemistry or a relevant field and have a strong knowledge of polymeric materials. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and coordinate product development activities, including planning and managing R&D projects to meet project goals. 
  • Generate test data for development products and work with the Product Engineering Manager to enhance performance in line with technical standards. 
  • Continuously improve R&D practices and processes to align with project and company objectives. 
  • Meet with raw material suppliers to discuss requirements and innovations. 
  • Provide training and development opportunities for team members, fostering a skilled and knowledgeable team. 
  • Communicate effectively with technical and operational staff to ensure smooth project execution and alignment on goals. 
  • Prepare periodic reports for the R&D Technical Director, outlining project progress, challenges, and achievements. 

 

Qualifications and Skills: 

  • Degree educated in Chemistry or a related field. 
  • Strong knowledge of polymers, radical polymerisation processes, and adhesive products. 
  • Ability to propose technical solutions within projects with minimal supervision. 
  • Proficiency in project management, including planning and managing the work of self and direct reports. 
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety standards, including COSHH and Risk assessments, GHS, and REACH regulations. 
  • Capable of designing and analysing experiments using statistical techniques.  
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write detailed technical reports and deliver formal presentations. 

 

This role is suited for a leader with technical expertise and a proactive approach to driving R&D projects and team success within a structured and regulatory-compliant environment.
